If I needed to go smaller and lighter for short distance commuting and errands the EX250 would work well at 48 volts with an Etek mounted on the swing arm aka El Ninja style.
Tony G is building just such an EX250. Check the blogs - he's just getting going.
Either of these would pretty straight forward to convert to electric with lots of older models available at reasonable prices.
