yes the zivan's and most chargers can be built/modified/programmed to charge 
different types of batteries, however i've hear that even zivan's for AGMs 
still don't do well for AGM's but that is just hear-say

I think (warning, warning) that I read someplace where Zivan could 
change the charge algorithm depending on what battery technology you 
where using?

I've only had my PowerMate for a few weeks and only three or four 
change cycles on it before I toasted my Etek. Haven't put the new 
one in yet so I can't really say if the PowerMate is doing a grand 
job or killing my Yellow Tops yet.
