HiLittleSnitch should be one tool that you rely on to protect your mac. I know for sometime I disgarded all other safe guards in the belief that little snitch was all I needed. However I now recommend running you mac firewall, keep services off that you do not use, run clamxav to prevent viruses (mainly get rid of windows ones that are sent to you), I also use a hardened firewall in my gateway router and stealth all my ports behind it, also consider running hexwen an osx port of snort.
If you do all of those things then you will have pretty good protection. I am concerned that smurf seems to trolling for ways to circumvent LittleSnitch as much as trying to harden the app. Why did you not send your concerns directly to the developer instead of publishing it one the net? I am sure that if you did not get a satisfactory response from obdev you could have aired your concerns publicly.
