The 303 made quite a bit of noise at 24 kts and above, when I went to
the 'upgraded' model it was a lot quieter but still noisy, and even the
403 makes more noise than many will tolerate at high wind speeds. I
should add that sometimes noise is the product of poorly designed or
flimsy poles or mountings. I used oversized AL tube with SS brace tubes,
and a very substantial base with 5200 plywood backing plates on a nearby
bulkhead where oscillation might happen, and rubber collars around the
pole a both ends. Result was NO harmonics. Go below and close the hatch
and you can barley hear it until the wind really picks up and the blades
twist to dump wind.

One thing is folks who say they want silence...huh? Sailboats are seldom
silent in brisk winds, it is just that you get used to all the noise,
same thing happens with a wind genny, you get used to it fast. But if
you DO want to stop it, with the Air Marine you can flip a switch and
the blades will then almost stop. I do this sometimes if I am anchored
near other boats in a windy anchorage, at night I will turn it off so
folks won't gripe about trying to sleep and hearing my genny. I
personally don't care about the slight noise, but...
I did this in the day once when a neighbor complained, only to see him
start his engine which made much more noise than my genny! Oh well,
guess he was used to that!

I hear that the new model Air is even more quite. But one thing about
this unit is the thin blades, very efficient and light weight but more
likely to make noise. So to some extent it is a trade off...anything
that makes this much power but is a lot quieter is also much heavier,
not as sophisticated or reliable, and costs more.

I doubt it. On my uncles farm in Kansas he had a windmill for the cattle
tank and it made all kinds of noises in high winds.
Calves might spook, they will at anything, but once they get used to it,
they would not spook.

But...with electric there IS an advantage, you could mount the wind
genny a ways away from the tank, just use a 24V or even a 48V wind
gennerator and a battery close to the pump. -Ken
