Yes, I knew that also as you have said pretty much the same before.
But your idea of 'heavy weather" may NOT be what the N. Atlantic can
dish up in a true N'easter...remember this guy wants to tow his dink as
a sort of 'safety measure' in case he goes over the side.
I have had MY boat (similar in size to his) out in weather that would
swamp your inflatable with green water over it time and again, and seen
much worse from Navy ships as I am sure you have also from Merchant ships.
Keep in mind also that a 27 ft Bristol doesn't give anywhere near the
shelter that your 65 ft boat does.
Once the dink is full of water it it weighs MUCH more than it did
before, and even if it drains quickly every time, most if not all dinks
will sooner or later break or chaff through the towing line(s)or will
pull something off the dink in such circumstances.
And once again, he said he was going to tow while sailing...this will
reduce speed a bit and have a very significant impact on windward
performance, and you should not give that up near a lee shore in bad
weather! Even if your engine is working fine when you start....
So I still maintain it is apples and oranges and it is not a good idea
to tow a dink with his circumstances unless you are willing to put up
with reduced performance and risk loosing the dink.
For your circumstances it is a different mater. -Ken
