I was too quick to reply before (without reading all my messages). Yes, we used a halyard to haul the dingy up on the foredeck too.

I use a spare halyard to lift my dink out of the water and put her upside
down on the foredeck.  The 4hp motor is taken off first and stowed.

I made a three point lifting bridle. (Trial and error on the bridle legs
gave me the proper balance).

I pull her alongside, hook in the quick disconnect and a few turns on the
halyard winch and she's aboard.

A couple of rachet straps across the dink and she's secure enough to ride
out some very nasty weather.

The main problem I had was with fouled sheets as I tacked, but a small line
in the right place prevents fouling.
