Too bad he didn't think about attaching a galley knife to a boathook or
broom handle with spiral clamps or even duct tape to cut the dinghy loose
in the "several hours" he had before he lost his vane steering and put a
big hole in his boat.

My point about my towing my dinghy is not that it is desirable or safe, it
is not (I only do it because I am unable to lift it up onto the deck), but
that I have done it safely for many years and thousands of miles.
