Boat yards & the people they employ, vary incredibly. Many yards & their staff are great, some should not be allowed near a boat. The competency of a yard & their staff starts at the top w/the management.
We have observed questionable blocking practices at a couple of well established, full service yards that APPEAR to be professionally run - one in Clear Lake Texas & one in the Fla Keys. We have seen correct blocking practices at smaller, less "professionally" run yards in both Texas & Florida. It's almost as if they care a little more & can't cover their losses as readily as the "BIG" guys. My experiences with surveyors also varies widely & some of it is worse than the boat yards. They can be great or completely incompetent and/or have personal biases that taint their findings. Find a surveyor with NO affiliation to any of the parties involved. This may sound obvious, but the relationships can be well hidden. If you can, find one that is biased against the yard that damaged your boat. Do your research! Besides a competent, un-affiliated surveyor, you need to find a lawyer. Been there, done that....Trust me... you NEED to involve a lawyer. Your boat insurance company can also be a resource for advice. It is in their interest for you not to have to file a claim thru them. Marine insurance companies love having dirt on boat yards BTW. Hope this helps & I wish you much luck. I assume now is not the time to divulge the names of the parties involved... but would you share w/us where you are located? ----- Original Message ----- From: "Geoffrey Ferrell" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, April 01, 2008 5:20 PM Subject: Re: [Liveaboard] on the hard & 'dented' - question re properblocking practice > Geoffrey Ferrell > SV Lagniappe C&C 30 _______________________________________________ Liveaboard mailing list [email protected] To adjust your membership settings over the web http://www.liveaboardnow.org/mailman/listinfo/liveaboard To subscribe send an email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] To unsubscribe send an email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] The archives are at http://www.liveaboardnow.org/pipermail/liveaboard/ To search the archives http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected] The Mailman Users Guide can be found here http://www.gnu.org/software/mailman/mailman-member/index.html
