Would it be possible for you to place lines on the opposite wall of the canal? I'd use low stretch Dacron/polyester on the assumption that the lines would be quite long and Nylon would have too much stretch at that length. By the same token, if you placed conventional anchors off your beam, would they have sufficient scope to hold?
Forget a mushroom! They are intended to be set and sink over an extended period of time. Therefore, they are very heavy and hard to retrieve without an "A-frame." Ron Rogers
