Ahmet,

any second thoughts?

I am no "chest beating monkey", having lived thru a war, had my home
destroyed by bombs, and several family members killed,
so I'm no armchair general, but there comes a time when force is necessary.
Somalia is a country without government or law enforcement, where people are
committing crimes against the international
community without fear of punishment. Where is the UN in this besides a lot
of rhetoric?
Last reports say over 600 hostages held there; now comes news that some of
them are being tortured, so what is your
rational solution?
My advice would be to establish a naval blockade with ships from all
countries involved, checking every outgoing vessel
for weapons on board.

That's my $0.02

Walter

Walter,
The hijaking in question has nothing to do with kid gloves, Sweden or
Switzerland. Don't forget, the Russian navy show off operation
was after finding out that the ships crew had locked themselves safely in a
compartment. What deserves praise is the South Korean navy demonstrating
outstanding performance a few weeks ago by killing most of the pirates and
saving all of the good guys who were exposed to the firefight.
S/V Quest a 58ft US yacht was hijacked, captain and crew were held at
gunpoint. US Navy located the small target very efficiently and followed the
yacht very effectively but evidently there was no opportunity to kill the
hijackers without one of them also getting the opportunity to kill some or
all of the good guys so lets not compare apples and oranges. If the almighty
Russian destroyer captain had intercepted the S/V Quest what was he going to
do that we don't allow the US captains to do? This is the question you need
to answer. Other than that, we have enough monkeys who constantly beat their
chests on this list.
No offense mate, just telling you the thoughts I consider rational.
