Hi Ben,
I guess you are talking about the "low oil pressure" sonic indicator (often a bell on sportfish boats) that sounds on many boats between the time you apply 12V run power to the engine (to power the "run solenoid") and the time the starting engine pumps up oil pressure enough to turn off the "low oil pressure" switch. In this case the voice annunciator will announce just like the "low oil pressure" indicator does on many boats. However, as you might guess, Bandersnatch is not part of the "many boats" group. My 6V-53 Detroit does not have a run solenoid. To shut down I bypass the idle detent on the throttle lever and pull it down to the stop position. I have a two-wire spst oil pressure switch on the engine, one lug connects to 12VDC and the other feeds the "engine on" line. To start my engine I advance the throttle to the start position, turn on fuel and oil primer pumps and hit the starter switch. When the oil pressure comes up the oil pressure switch energizes the "engine on" 12vdc line which feeds the engine instruments (including alarms) and the alternator field. Engine alarms are turned on with a separate spdt toggle switch fed by the "engine on" line. In the down position it feeds a amber light to warn me the alarms are off, in the up position it feeds the alarms (low oil, high temp - lights and annunciators). The voice annunciator simply repeats over and over again whatever sound file you have uploaded to it as long as power is applied to the device. >>>>> What I'm wondering about is how these annunciators will work when you're first starting the engine, or what they'll do in the (admittedly rare) situations where you need to have the key in the 'Run' position without the engine actually running. I think I'll let someone else be the guinea pig for once, though... maybe I'm getting the slightest bit wiser as I get older. :) Ben _______________________________________________ Liveaboard mailing list [email protected] To adjust your membership settings over the web http://liveaboardonline.com/mailman/listinfo/liveaboard To subscribe send an email to [email protected] To unsubscribe send an email to [email protected] The archives are at http://www.liveaboardonline.com/pipermail/liveaboard/ To search the archives http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected] The Mailman Users Guide can be found here http://www.gnu.org/software/mailman/mailman-member/index.html
