I understand the general idea of pre-lubers, but am hazy about the
actual details. Does it tap off your sump and feed in through a valve
cover, or something like that?

(Hmm, now that I'm thinking about it - tapping it off the sump drain and
valving it could serve as both a pre-lube pump _and_ an oil changer!
That's what I call a compelling project...)

Norm> I have two drains on my oil pan. One was originally drilled, tapped,
and plugged for the drain. The other was just like it on the other side but
no hole so I drilled and tapped one. That one feeds - through a ball
valve - the suction side of the pump. The pump feeds the engine oil through
a plugged hole I found in the oil filter adapter. I added a bypass
pressure relief valve across the pump to limit the pressure. The idea is
that in case of a main engine lube oil pump failure I could turn on the
pre-start lube oil pump, the GearPuppy, and get into port on that. The
relief valve would allow the pump to operate at a load that would keep the
circuit breaker from tripping.

I don't understand that bit about "changing oil". It's a Detroit. It
changes its own oil. I just add a gallon every 24 hours of operation and
change the filter once a year.

I'm thinking... if you drive a relay off that two-terminal oil pressure
switch you mentioned, you could use it to cut the power to the Gear
Puppy. Oil pressure comes up, GP goes off; no chance of blowing the
pump.

Norm > Yes, but I wanted to use it as an emergency oil pump. The
auto-resetting breaker works fine.

If I happen to see you before you get to it, I've got a 30A relay for
you. I carry a stack of the little suckers. :)

Norm > Thanks for the offer but I have a sackfull too.

I got a message from the Voice Annunciator people. The won't take back the
sack of 6 USB cables so if you buy any don't let them talk you into buying
the cables too.

"I double checked with my product manager on your request for the USB cable
return. The factory has marketed the USB cables to be sold with the
indicators so that' s why it was quoted that you'll need both. We also
quoted this NC/NR so I'm unable to take a return."
