Just to get some conversation going I have a question for the group. I have wondered if the cable guide for off-road vehicle winches might work on boats so as to lessen chaff. The guides that I am referencing are two metal cylinders arranged vertically and two cylinders arranged horizonally. When the wire cable is moved through the guide the cylinders roll so that the cable does not chaff on stationary metal. Since I have a steel boat, it would not be too difficult for me to install such guides instead of chocks or holes in my gunnels. As line stretched under load the cylinders would roll instead of the line scrapping over fixed surfaces. What do you all think of this idea?

Get something going, Norm! Jan and I are just sitting in our RV in a boatyard in Gloucester visiting our Yankee friends. Expect to leave Monday as Sandy arrives. If anyone reads Ocean Navigator I have an article in the Sept issue and in the Nov/Dec issue so I have been not completely lazy! Glad to know that I am still connected to my List family. Smooth sailing.
