My understanding it that long press to power off should only be used as a last resort as it doesn't give the operating system a chance to shut down properly - is this concern justified?
I would say I am not doing anything network-related, other than simply connecting to the internet! I've waited a lot longer than a few minutes, and the screen is still frozen. I will try your suggestion to press the esc key. BTW, group members are also answering my question on the next thread down, a Liverpool Digest thread! And I have replied thereto with some more details on what I have recently been doing on the Ubuntu install.
