Thanks, so it sounds like you are pretty confident of where the problem
lies, even if it is outside your area of expertise - right?

And your pinpointing the root of the problem dramatically raises my chances
of finding a solution via internet search!

Even if uninstalling snaps for good would be drastic, maybe uninstalling to
test smooth shutdown and then reinstalling is low risk thing to try? (I am
currently using all of snaps, flatpak and appimages - appimages managed
with Gear Lever, as AppImageLauncher seemed to be problematic and
unmaintained.)
