And yes, it would definitely be worth to make a survey before actually dedicating too much time. A google survey would be ok, cause no one would care to spam one of these, right? The way I was hoping it would work was that Tres would receive the money as a sheer gift (cause the backers wasn't getting anything from him, thus and gift, and in the US $14,000 tax free annually) and then Tres would pay the developer (which naturally would have to pay taxes in his country as it is income for him). Kickstarter, on the other hand, says that "in general, funds raised on Kickstarter are considered income". This usually makes sense, because the one who pledges usually don't give away the money but realize the project, so this might be a special case, at least that is what I am hoping for. Another option is that the developer we are hiring would receive the money directly, as in he would be the person behind the kickstarter.
