This is pretty much not true any more. Print-on-demand is of
*remarkably* good quality these days. You can literally send a PDF to
a printer and have it spit out a single beautifully-printed
perfect-bound book at a reasonable price.

In fact, this is how unscrupulous publishers spam Amazon with reprints
of Wikipedia text, per:
