Hello, it’s Peter here and welcome to Monday’s Levy Letter. I hope your day is
going well and I hope you’ll be able to join me tonight on BBC One at 6.30pm.
I’ll have all the day’s news of course and as it was a very big sporting
weekend and also the first weekend of Hull Fair, then we’ll have more on all of
those stories tonight on the programme at half past six. And of course Paul
will have the forecast.

Also tonight, I'll be speaking to the woman, who was told that her husband had
died, only to find him sitting up in his hospital bed. It’s an incredible story
and I’ll have more on that tonight.

I'll have the full story on the repairs to Lincoln Cathedral. It’s an
incredible building, but wear and tear on this ancient building means that one
million pounds will need to be spent each year for the next twenty years in
order to sustain it. That sort of money is just unbelievable isn’t it? I’ll
have more details on this tonight on the programme.

We’ll be talking to the man, who's walked on the top of the world. That’s Karl
Bushby! We’ve been following his journey on Look North and it’s an incredible
tale, so join me tonight to hear his story.

Plus we'll have the latest on the water vole kidnapping in Goole. Can you
believe this? And we'll be getting the fans' reaction to the news that Hull is
now the capital city of Rugby League as Hull KR gets promotion. All that
tonight on BBC One at 6.30pm.

Big Show

We’re planning a big show for Children In Need. It’s called an Evening with
Peter Levy and it’s on Sunday November the 12th. I’ll be there to host the
evening at the Hull Truck theatre. The tickets go on sale today and on the
night, there’ll be guests for me to chat to and also some live music as well.
The tickets, I’m sure, will go fast. The proceeds are going to raise money for
Children In Need. So it’s an Evening with Peter Levy and it’s on Sunday 12th
November at Hull Truck theatre. If you’d like to come along and join me and I’d
love you to be there, all for a good cause, then if you want to book your
tickets, then they’re £15.00 and £12.50 for concessions and they’re available
from the Hull Truck theatre box office. The Hull Truck number is 01482 323638
so get booking your tickets as soon as possible. I really hope that you’re able
to come along! Give them a call and get your tickets and I look forward to
seeing you there on the night.

Home Owners

We’re often talking about home owners on the programme and how much money
they’re making and how much their houses are going up in price. Well, soaring
numbers of home owners are extending their properties, rather than buying a
larger one, to avoid paying their massive stamp duty bill. Stamp duty is, of
course, one of the taxes that people hate the most and now people are putting
in hundreds of thousands of applications for loft conversions and
conservatories and other projects, which create more space. Experts say that
the increase in applications has gone up dramatically, rather than people
actually deciding to move home. So there you are. That’s on the subject of home
extensions. Don’t forget, if you’ve got a view on that or indeed on anything
else, then get in touch. And if you’ve got a problem that you think I could
help with on Look North one night, or if you’ve got a story, then let me know.
Drop me a line to [EMAIL PROTECTED] And of course if it’s urgent, then ri!
ng me any day at work to the Hull reception on 01482 323232.

Panto

Yes, it seems daft, but the panto season is not far off now. The Radio
Humberside pantomime will be as funny and brilliant as ever I’m sure.
Rehearsals are starting tonight actually for that! But so many of the big stars
are now playing in panto around the country. I was interested to see and read
that at one time Patrick Duffy commanded an audience of three hundred and fifty
million viewers in fifty-seven countries. He played, of course, Bobby Ewing in
Dallas, but where is he this Christmas? Well, he’s playing Baron Hardup in
Woking in Surrey. So there you are. It comes to us all eventually! Also around
the country are some of the biggest actors and the biggest names in
showbusiness and they’re in pantomime, like Bradley Walsh, Stephanie Beacham,
Lesley Joseph, Nigel Havers, who was on the programme a few weeks back and he’s
playing Captain Hook in Wickham and Brit Ekland is also playing pantomime down
south as well. And of course, over the coming weeks, we’ll have the deta!
ils of some of the top shows that are on around our part of the world for
Christmas in Hull and Grimsby and also up the road in York as well. It doesn’t
take that long to get there and I think they’ve got Aladdin this year. Sid
Little is in that one and also Michael Starke. He used to be Sinbad in
Brookside and these days he’s in The Royal on ITV on Sunday nights. So that’s
Aladdin at York this Christmas.

Sound of Music

Talking of shows, we all enjoyed that programme, which has been on for the last
few weeks on Saturday nights trying to find someone to play the lead part of
Maria in The Sound of Music. Well, the show is only a few weeks away from
opening now and it starts at the London Palladium on the 3rd November. Well,
the lady, who was eventually chosen, was Connie Fisher. And do you remember –
although I don’t want to gloat – that I tipped her as the winner after week
one! So for once I got something right! I wish I was as lucky with the lottery
numbers! But Connie Fisher is to play Maria in The Sound of Music in November
at the Palladium and her debut album, which is called My Favourite Things, is
out today. So I reckon she’s going to be a big star. So we wish Connie well. I
hope she’ll be on the programme one day!

Pictures

Don’t forget, if you’ve got a photograph or a picture that you’ve taken over
the last few days or weeks that you’re particularly proud of and you think we
could show it on the programme, then drop me a line. Send it to me either
electronically or in the post and we’ll see if we can get it on the programme.

Well, that's it from me for today. Join me tonight on BBC One at 6.30pm and
don’t forget about that special show for Children In Need on Sunday November
12th at Hull Truck theatre. If you’d like to come along, then I’d like to see
you there, so ring the box office and book your tickets. Have a good afternoon!

Take care,

Peter
