Hello and welcome to Wednesday’s Levy Letter. I hope your day’s going well and
you can join me for tonight’s Look North on BBC One at half past six. Tonight
on the programme, it’s come from New York to Hull, we’ll report on a new
community justice scheme being trialled in the city.

The KC Stadium hosts its most lucrative game ever as Premiership big boys
Chelsea play Hull to defend the Carling Cup. Our sports reporter Damian Johnson
will be at the game.

I’ll be speaking to Gillian Merron about the latest developments at the Labour
Party Conference in Bournemouth.

And Hollywood comes to the region again as the coronation scenes for the Young
Victoria movie are filmed at Lincoln Cathedral. We’ll have the story as one
surprise visitor to the set stole the show.

And of course we’ll have the weather forecast for the region on the programme
tonight with Lisa Gallagher. That’s all coming up at half past six on BBC One.

Air Ambulance

I’ve got a plug here for an event on October 19th. It’s at the Cross Keys Inn
at Grasby, and it’s in aid of the Lincs and Notts Air Ambulance. Unfortunately,
the organisers are in need of a band or singer willing to come and provide
entertainment for free. If you can help them out, it’s for a good cause, then
contact Mrs Hagyard on 01469 519574. Hopefully they’ll find a performer or a
band to help the event go with a swing and raise some money.

Chuckle Brothers

Well we’ve had them on the programme, and you might be familiar with their
trademark exchange “To me, To you”. This week the Chuckle Brothers are
celebrating 20 years of their BBC programme ChuckleVision. Has it really been
that long? They’ve been incredibly popular with their brand of slapstick since
the very first show back in 1987.
They come from a family of performers and comedians, and incredibly, they’re 60
and 63 years old. You wouldn’t tell from the way they fall about and carry on.
So congratulations to the Chuckle Brothers for 20 years of their programme, a
lot of children have grown up with it I think, speaking to some of the younger
people I work with. Well done to them, and I’m sure they’ll be slipping on
banana skins and hitting each other on the head with wooden planks for years to
come.

Tea

Well I’ve reported a few health fads here in the letter, and there’s a story in
the news today about the reported health benefits in a cup of tea. It’s very
confusing these days to work out exactly what’s good for you and what’s not,
there seem to be contradicting studies on nearly everything. Now I’m one of
those who heard that tea is supposed to be good for you, but the Advertising
Standards Authority has criticised an advert for tea recommending four cups a
day. The Tea Council campaign claimed that tea was rich in beneficial
antioxidants also found in fruit and vegetables, and that this was backed by
scientific papers. However, the Advertising authority says there is no evidence
for this. It’s all rather confusing.
Apparently, research into the health benefits of tea are “promising but
inconclusive.” So there you are, tea might have health benefits, but they’re
not entirely sure. I’m glad that’s all cleared up then.

That’s about it from me today. Of course if you know somebody who’s not signed
up to the Levy Letter and you think they’d like one, get them to go to
www.bbc.co.uk/looknorthhull and click on Levy Letter and they can sign up and
start receiving their free daily Levy Letter from the very next day. If you go
to that website you can also watch the latest edition of Look North online in
case you missed it, and you can view some of our top stories in individual bite
sized pieces as well.

I hope you can join me for Look North today, it’s at the usual time of half
past six on BBC One, enjoy your day and I’ll see you later.

Bye for now

Peter
