Hello it's Tim here with Friday's Levy Letter,

You will be glad to know that normal service is resumed from next week as Peter
will be back on the sofa.

Once again, I have enjoyed my stint presenting Look North and I would like to
thank everyone who has contacted me during the week. It will be back to the day
job for me as Political Editor next week, and what a week it could be with the
possibility of an election announcement. Although as I speak, the polls are
showing a "Tory bounce" - making it very risky for Gordon Brown to gamble on
calling a general election.

People often describe politics as "boring" and tell me they are simply not
interested in what happens at Westminster. Thursday's programme highlighted a
classic issue which the politicians could be using on your doorstep - post
office closures. This will be a gift for the opposition parties as they blame
the government for taking services away from branches. But with the network
losing £4million every week, it would be a brave politician to promise
ploughing taxpayers' money into the Royal Mail, when hospitals and schools are
under such pressure. What would you choose to keep, your local post office or
your local community hospital? It's a tough one...

On tonight's Look North, as the funerals take place today of 4 children killed
in a road accident at Tattershall Bridge in Lincolnshire, we'll speak to the
police investigating the events which led to the family 4x4 plunging into the
River Witham.

After three weeks of disruption, residents of Grimsby are getting back to
normal as demolition gets underway at the site of the former Birds Eye factory.

If you're an Imp then things aren't looking too rosy at the moment. We'll be
reporting on what Lincoln City can do to get out of trouble, and looking back
at the last time they were at the foot of the league.

And Look North will be live at Hull Fair tonight as the traditional fun fair
gets underway. If you live in or around Hull then you might be getting ready to
sample the thrills, the sights and sounds, and the atmosphere of Europe’s
biggest travelling fair. Of course not everybody’s happy about it as we’ve seen
recently on the programme, but if you’re heading out over the weekend I hope
you have a wonderful time.

Well we had a few big issues on the programme yesterday, post office closures,
graffiti, and climate change. Thank you for your messages on those. So is
graffiti art, or simply vandalism? It’s an issue that was brought up time and
time again in your comments. Many people seemed to be of the opinion that it
isn’t art at all and we shouldn’t refer to them as “graffiti artists” at all.
Yet at the same time, lots of the so called vandals do show artistic talent
even if they choose illegal methods of displaying it. It’s a controversial
issue that I don’t think we’ll solve in the Levy Letter, but food for thought
nonetheless. Thank you for all your comments.

Now I’m told that this is a traditional subject of discussion in the Levy
Letter, yes it’s time for a story on house prices. A report’s been published
claiming that the average house in Britain now costs five times the wage of the
average first time buyer. If you’re flush with cash then you might be
interested in snapping up a property in one of the most expensive places to
buy, the London borough of Kensington and Chelsea. If you’re looking to buy on
a more modest budget then the cheapest is the district of Wansbeck in
Northumberland.
The report also concluded that there’s a rise in the number of people moving
into rented accommodation, the cost of renting in England was generally up to
30% cheaper than mortgage payments, so maybe now’s the time to rent rather than
buy, unless you fancy a move up to Northumberland!

Well that’s it from me. Thank you for watching me on Look North this week, and
if you miss the programme live today and you want to catch up then you can see
it online at www.bbc.co.uk/looknorthhull. Enjoy your weekend and join me
tonight at half past six on BBC One.

Tim
