Hello it's Tim here with the Levy Letter,

Well here I am more than half way through my stint covering for Peter's holiday
and still no sign of a postcard from the great man. I am sure he will make up
for it with an extra large stick of rock for the Look North team.

As you may know, my day job is Political Editor for Yorkshire and Lincolnshire.
It could be a busy few weeks for me if Gordon Brown decides to hold a general
election in November. The decision will largely depend on opinion poll reaction
to this week's Conservative conference.

If the election DOES go ahead, then we will obviously devote a lot of coverage
on Look North and our BBC Local Radio stations to the campaign. What's that -
can I see you yawning already?
Well, I want to make sure we are reflecting YOUR views and the issues that
matter to YOU! I know from the texts and emails you send us every night how
strongly you feel about events in the news, so please let us know how we can
cover the potential contest in a way that doesn't make you switch off.

Of course you can send us all your comments, suggestions and anything else you
want to tell us about on our email address [EMAIL PROTECTED] I look forward to
seeing what you think up!

Coming up on tonight's programme, a fight back gets underway as consumers
launch an action group in Louth to save local post offices from closure. We’ve
had lots of messages on this topic, it’s something that affects lots of us all
around the country. Keep your comments and suggestions coming in on this and
don’t miss our report tonight.

Heading in opposite directions - We'll have a special report on claims that
have split the Boston Independent Bypass Party following a row over a deal with
the Tories. We'll speak to the two sides involved in the debate.

We'll report on the Bridlington man due to be sentenced for the abduction and
rape of a nine year old girl.

We’ll take a look at the graffiti artists taking to the Hull rooftops and
putting their lives at risk all in an effort to make a name for themselves.
It’s called tagging, and even if you don’t know what that is, you’ve probably
seen it somewhere.

And move over Robin Hood. We'll speak to the Lincolnshire boy who's won his
first national archery title at the age of ten!

And we’ll have the latest weather forecast for our region as well.

Now in the Levy Letter tradition I’ve been scouring the news for interesting
stories to give you this week and this is one that might herald a change in the
way we pay for things. By logging onto a website, fans of the rock music band
Radiohead will be able to choose how much they pay for their new album. I don’t
know if you’ve heard of them, apparently they’re quite big in music circles,
and I don’t know if this is all a publicity stunt but it’s an original idea.
The music will be released as a download over the internet, but the price is
undecided; you get to put in whatever amount of money you choose. So if you
want to pay nothing, you can, but if you want to pay the price or a normal
album or more, you can do that as well.
It’s all a bit of a moral dilemma. Of course you don’t actually receive a
physical object, the music is all in computer files you download.
So would you pay for something you can get for free? Maybe if you’re a fan of
the group you’d feel guilty about enjoying their music without supporting the
band financially, or maybe you’d think they’re rich enough by now that they
don’t need any more of your hard earned cash! It’s an interesting way of
selling music anyway, and perhaps it’s the way of the future. Pick your own
price – I think quite a few of us would like to live in a world like that.

Just before I go, I’ve got a story here illustrating the dangers of a spur of
the moment publicity stunt. It involves a woman dressed as a giant tomato, the
mayoral office of Belfast, and a leapfrogging middle aged man.
I don’t know if you’ve guessed, but it didn’t have a happy outcome. The Lord
Mayor of Belfast attempted to vault over a female council worker dressed as a
giant tomato as a stunt for photographers, hitting her on the back of the head
with his knee in the process, and leaving her with severe back injuries! He is
reported to be “Very, very unhappy about what happened” as well he might be.
The incident was of course recorded for posterity by the attending
photographers, making it all more embarrassing I would think.
Let that serve as a warning to our own Mayor of Wetwang, look before you leap,
particularly where giant fruit and veg are involved!

That’s it from me, I’ll see you on the programme tonight at half past six and
again later after the ten o’clock news on BBC One. I hope you’ll join me then.

Take care and have a good day

Tim
