Hi there, it’s Peter. Today the city of Hull will be welcoming the floods
minister, John Healey, has he returns once more to the city. Tonight on the
programme, we'll be with the schools and residents, who are demanding more
money to help pick up the pieces after the floods in June.

And could turkey be off the menu for Christmas? We'll have a special report on
the effects the recent avian flu scare will have on our local poultry
producers.

And ahead of Children in Need, we'll be going behind the scenes at a youth
centre to see how your donations last year helped benefit the community.

Plus, here’s one I’m very excited about, because I’m a huge fan of the series.
We'll be with the star of a new play of the lost episodes of Dad's Army. It
seems incredible doesn’t it that back in the seventies, those recordings with
the original cast were erased! Well, they’ve now been restored and recreated in
a stage show and tonight on the programme we’ll be finding out why thirty years
on it's still so popular with audiences. That’s all tonight at half past six.

Last night we were in Skegness where already they were celebrating Christmas.
It seems we can’t avoid getting into the festive cheer even though it’s just
November. Here’s a plug for the town of Caistor in Lincolnshire for their
Christmas Tree lights switch on. That’s on Saturday November 24th at 6pm. The
tree is very special I’ve been told. The forty foot high tree was donated by
the people of Enebakk in Norway. Children from Caistor schools will be singing
and parading in a candlelit procession at 6pm and Father Christmas will be
making an appearance too! So Caistor will be getting into the festive spirit on
Saturday November 24th!

Wizard Schools

This may sound like every child’s ultimate dream to go to Hogwarts and learn
how to fly on a broomstick and make potions and spells. Well, pupils in
Nottingham are actually being allowed to attend wizard-themed classes. Children
are allowed to dress up as their favourite Harry Potter characters, chant
spells and wave their wands about in class. And if parents are thinking what on
earth has this got to do with education, then take a look at these results.
This school has gone from the bottom 25% of schools three years ago to the top
25%. Allowing kids to chant subtraction sums like a Harry Potter spell has seen
behaviour in classes improve enormously. In English classes, pupils perform
their own stage version of the books and in PE pupils are taught how to balance
as if they were flying a broomstick, geography lessons include locations
featured in the films and herbology has a place in science classes. So what do
you reckon to this? A brilliant idea for getting kids engaged i!
n learning or have these teachers in Nottingham lost the plot? Get in touch as
always on this one. It’s the usual address of [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Cat

Bizarre story of the week and I’m not sure if it’s strange because of this
particular cat’s behaviour or the owner’s! A cat in Bournemouth is disappearing
every night, but arriving in the same place every day at the same time and
expecting to be picked up by the owner in her car. Sgt Podge is the name of
this peculiar cat, who disappears every night, but appears again one a half
miles away. The owner though isn’t put out by her moggy’s behaviour. She drops
her son off at school every morning and then collects her cat on the pavement
just after 8am. What might make you chuckle is that she still has to do that
even at the weekend or during school holidays. After his nightly excursions,
Sgt Podge is apparently all tuckered all and has his breakfast before retiring
to sleep by the radiator!

That’s it from me. I hope you’ve got lots planned for Children In Need this
week. Angela emailed in to say that the Ist Ingoldsby Rainbows raised £89.68 on
a fun night. So many thanks to them! Keep letting us know if you’re doing
anything to raise money for Pudsey. It’s the usual address of [EMAIL PROTECTED]
And best of luck with your fundraising.

Take care,

Peter
