Hi there, its Peter here. Hows the Christmas shopping going? And have you sent your cards yet? Last posting day to the UK is Thursday apparently, so get them written if you havent already!
Today is a big day for anyone, who uses a hospital in East Yorkshire as an announcement is expected about the future of health services in Bridlington. Plus we'll be waiting for confirmation that the government will be giving £20 million pounds to services in Beverley, Hornsea and Driffield. Well have more on that story tonight on the programme. And as we continue our series looking at the impact of the floods six months on, we'll be finding out what's happening to house prices in our area and how some flood hit homeowners are struggling to sell their houses. We'll be taking a look at one of the world's biggest planes as it lands at RAF Waddington this lunchtime. The Antonov has a wing span or more than 240 feet and we'll be there to see it land. We'll be with the working dogs being bred by Lincolnshire Police for the first time in more than thirty years. We'll meet the puppies, which are being put through their paces ready for a career in the force. And it's Panto time and we'll have a special report from Hull New Theatre with Cannon and Ball. Thats all tonight on BBC One at half past six. And talking of pantomimes! Congratulations to the cast of the BBC pantomime, Cinderella. Theyre performing at the Middleton Hall in Hull tonight with the final performance tomorrow night. Tickets are still available, so get yourself down there. Carols Mr Rennison has been in touch with us with a little story about some lovely singers in the village of Scothern near Lincoln. He says theyre called Fusion and they perform regularly at local functions to raise money for lots of charities. They cover all of their own costs and are prepared to perform wherever and whenever as long as the venue is prepared to make a donation to charity. Mr Rennison thinks they must have raised hundreds of pounds without any public awareness so far and he thinks they deserve a little recognition. So well done to the singing group, Fusion in Scothern. Congratulations for all their hard work. And, like Mr Rennison, if you know of a group, who regularly give up their time for a good cause, then let me know. Id love to give their hard work a plug in the Letter. As always, its the usual address of [EMAIL PROTECTED] to get in touch with me. In The Red Im sure there are lots of worried shoppers out there, concerned about money at this time of year. Well, youre not alone. Shoppers will put an estimated £2.1 billion pounds on their credit cards before Christmas. A survey of about a thousand people expected to put 18% of all their remaining festive spending on their credit cards. 61% thought they may be able to pay back that expense on their plastic by the end of January, but the rest thought it would take longer. Sound familiar? A spokesman for this survey by a market research company said that around 8.6 million people intend to put half or more of their last-minute Christmas shopping on their credit cards. And this can be compared to a similar figure for last year, which was 6.5 million. So more of us are relying on plastic to get us through the Christmas shopping frenzy! Well, on that distressing note, Ill leave it there. I hope your preparations for Christmas are going well. Keep in touch with me as Id like to hear how youre getting along, and if you can spare the time whilst making Christmas cakes and mince pies, writing Christmas cards, cleaning the house and wrapping presents, then please join me tonight for Look North at half past six!
