Hello! It’s Tim Iredale here with your letter today. Peter has started his
Christmas holiday early, so I’ll be with you for the programme this evening.

Tonight, we'll have the story of the mother and daughter reunited to spend
their first Christmas together after forty years of separation. The daughter,
Hilary, was given up for adoption when she was just nine days old and we'll be
talking to them tonight to find out how she finally managed to meet her birth
mother.

Also tonight, find out about the 'safe haven' that's being offered to Christmas
revellers in Scunthorpe city centre - a trailer converted to make a field
hospital, police station and meeting point.

As we continue our look at the impact of the floods six months on, we'll be
visiting the small village of Langworth to see how they're coping.

And we'll hear from the stars at Lincoln's Theatre Royal about the lasting
appeal of panto. That’s all tonight on BBC One at half past six. I hope you can
join me.

The BBC’s panto is over for another year. The Ugly Sisters will be hanging up
their wigs and Prince Charming will be packing up his breeches. Some lovely
messages have been coming in to us through our answer phone, through to BBC
Radio Humberside and also in our Open Centre as well. Thanks to everyone, who
supported the panto this year. Unbelievably, just last night a huge £760 was
made just through the sale of the raffle tickets and merchandise. We haven’t
got the amount raised from the ticket sales just yet, but through the raffle
and merchandise alone, a grand total of over £3,000 has been raised. That’s
incredible. And I think the majority of that praise should go to our
receptionist, Ros Carr, who barricades all our audience at the door of the
theatre until they buy a raffle ticket! So thanks to Ros and all the helpers
front of house. They’re always the first ones at the theatre, and work so hard
front of house, so thanks go to them. And what you may not know are that t!
here are lots of people, who help out back stage too, who don’t work for the
BBC, but like to offer their help for the panto and of course there are all the
dancers too, who give up their time to perform for us – so thanks go to all of
them. So we’ll be waiting eagerly to find out just how much was raised in total
by the staff of BBC Look North and Radio Humberside in their pantomime
production of Cinderella. Well done to them – I expect they’ll be looking
forward to a well-earned rest now over Christmas. Of course, I’m sure Peter
will let you know the grand total of money raised for those twenty-one
charities in our region in the New Year. If you want to know who’s benefiting
from this fundraising, then there’s a full list of the charities involved on
our website – bbc.co.uk/humber/entertainment. There’s a link on there for
details about the BBC’s pantomime.

Baby Names

You always see articles like this at this time of year, when groups start
looking back at the year for certain trends. Well, the top names given to
babies in 2007 have just been announced and they are Jack and Grace! Jack has
been at the top spot for baby boys’ names for the thirteenth year running. The
top five boys’ names for England and Wales haven’t really changed much since
last year. So Jack is at the top, Thomas has stayed at number two and Oliver
has risen to number three. Since last year, Grace has moved up one spot to
become the favourite name chosen for baby girls and Ruby is up to number two.
Olivia used to be number one last year, but has dropped two positions to number
three. And this list shows more excuses to blame celebrities these days! The
name, Jayden, climbed thirty six places this year to become the highest new
entry in the boys’ top fifty list at number thirty two. Jayden is Britney’s
Spears’ second son. The name, Ava, leapt twenty-three places to numb!
er forty one. Can you remember that pop band from the reality show ‘Popstars’,
called ‘Hear’Say’. Well, one of the singers from there, Myleene Klass, who
presented the BBC’s One Show for a while, has just given birth and that was the
name she gave her daughter. The name Alfie made it in the top ten after the pop
singer, Lily Allen wrote a song about her baby brother, Alfie. So if you’re
about to give birth to a Christmas baby, then do any of those names take your
fancy?

Plugs

A quick plug for the Lydian Choir Concert tonight. It starts at 7.30pm at St
Lawrence's Church on Church Lane in Scunthorpe. Good luck for their Christmas
concert.

And here’s a lovely email from Linda Middleton with some good news! She writes,
“Children and their families from the ‘Parkstone Kids Club’ Riverside Community
Centre in Hull, who have been affected by the summer floods, have been
allocated some funding from "The Children's Fund" to put a bit of a sparkle
back into their lives. As the co-ordinator of the club, I arranged to take them
on a trip to Blackpool to see the lights. This was on Saturday 3rd November and
on Saturday 22nd December at the Riverside Community Centre from 10am to 4pm we
are having a great Christmas party with a magician in the morning and a
pantomime in the afternoon and to finish a visit from Santa. So this hopefully
will get them into the Christmas Spirit and help them to put aside any traumas
that they have gone through.” So this Saturday, there’ll be a Christmas party
for the ‘Parkstone Kids Club’. Best wishes to them and I hope they enjoy it!

That’s all from me for today. Please keep in touch with me. I’d love to hear
what’s happening in your life. Any moans to add to mine that it’s so busy in
the shops at the moment and you can never find a parking space at this time of
year! Bah Humbug! Any Christmas worries that you’d like to share with us, or
any event that you’re excited about, then please let me know about it. It’s
