Hi there, it’s Peter here with Tuesday’s Letter. Tonight, we'll be looking at
Humberside Police’s plans to get rid of three hundred front line police
officers and replace them with office staff. We’ll be getting the full story on
this tonight.

With all the talk in the news at the moment about credit crunches and shares
falling, we'll take a look at the county's growing debt problem and we'll hear
from one man, who lost his house, after running up debts on credit cards. And
we'll talk with the region's debt councillors to find out how they're coping
with the increasing number of people struggling with debt.

Also tonight, we'll be tracking down the graffiti artists leaving their marks
on the streets of Hull. And find out why the man, who designed Princess Diana's
wedding dress, is now launching a new range of budget clothes in Grimsby.
That’s all on BBC One at half past six. I hope you can join me tonight.

See-Saw Energy

I always like to hear about new inventions and technology. I wish I could come
up with ideas like this one! A simple see-saw in a children’s playground could
be used to generate electricity. The thought is that this invention could help
power classrooms in Africa and just five or ten minutes use on the see-saw
could light up a classroom for one evening. I think I’d quite like one too! It
might reduce my heating bills!

Fly Me To The Moon

Call me old… well don’t! But doesn’t it seem amazing that companies now are
considering developing the space tourism industry! Plans are that a production
line of rocket planes will be needed to satisfy the demand of holidaymakers
wanting a somewhat exotic holiday in space! It seems these companies think that
up to fifteen thousand people a year would be prepared to part with £160,000
for a trip of a lifetime. Would you spend that amount of money to be propelled
with a combustion of liquid oxygen-methane propellant, which would provide more
than the 1km/s punch needed to break through the top of the Earth’s atmosphere?
Sounds terrifying right? Unbelievably 50% of the mass of the plane at take-off
is just fuel and that fuel would propel the aircraft to above 100kilometres
above the Earth and into Space. We’ve certainly come a long way haven’t we?

Well, on that note that’s it from me. Join me tonight if you can. And keep in
touch with me if you see anything unusual whilst you’re out and about and let
me know!

Take care,

Peter
