Hi there, its Peter here with your last Letter of the week. Thanks for being there this week. Lots of emails and messages last night came in about the story of the smoker, who was refused an operation to help with his back pain unless he gave up the habit. It got a lot of people very cross about that. And I think there was quite a fair spread between both sides of the argument those who thought he should give up and those, who thought that he shouldnt have to. Heres just a small selection for you.
An anonymous caller on the hotline thought, I think if you carry on smoking, then youre carrying on putting your health at risk. Youve got to decide which is more important smoking or having the operation. And an opposing thought here, Are all these people, who are refused surgery because they smoke, are they going to be rebated all the tax that they have paid on the packets of cigarettes that theyve bought. I am a non-smoker. It seems a little unfair that they pay extra tax, because its seen as a health issue, which all goes into the health pot, and yet they are refused treatment, but they pay more money for it. Thanks for those messages. On tonight's programme, as the Environment Agency unveils a controversial scheme today to combat flooding along the Humber estuary, we'll reveal how up to two thousand homes could be abandoned to rising sea levels. Well have the details of that story on the programme. Also tonight, Lincolnshire Police admit they made a mistake and failed a father after he reported his son was missing. We'll have the exclusive story of this father's story and what will happen next. We'll be speaking with the family from Bridlington, who are calling on the Royal Mail to give their stamp of approval to put the faces of servicemen and women, who died in action, on future postage stamps. We'll have a special report of the fall out in RAF Wittering as service personnel are told not to wear their uniform when off duty for fear of reprisals. I think well want to hear your thoughts on this story. So tune in tonight to get the full story and then get ready to text or email in your thoughts! Find out tonight why one local MP wants all workers to have an extra bank holiday each year. We'll have a preview of the Humber derby as the Tigers take on the Iron at the KC this weekend. And we'll speak to a local vicar as the remains of up to three thousand people from the Middle Ages are returned to their resting place at Barton upon Humber. It looks like itll be a busy programme to finish off the working week. I hope you can join me at half past six as usual. Alcopops Well, heres something to get thinking about before the weekend starts! Do you think tax on alcoholic drinks like alcopops, beer and cider should be increased? And what would you say if the idea behind it was to help tackle binge-drinking? The Tory party have announced their latest plans, which they think will help curb the rise in anti-social behaviour and street crime. Beers and ciders with lower alcoholic content, however, might see a decrease in price so that responsible drinkers wont be affected by the plans. So what do you reckon? If youre popping to the pub for a quick snifter this weekend, do you think youd be happy to pay a little bit more if it meant that street crime could be reduced, especially at the weekends? Or do you think it probably wont make a difference and that alcohol isnt the real cause of the problem? As usual keep in touch with me this weekend. If theres a story you come across that you think we should know about for next week, then let me know! .
