Hi there and welcome to Wednesday’s Letter. Tonight on the programme, we'll
speak with the Hull residents, who are calling on the local authority to look
again at plans to build an academy school on a flood plain. They say they fear
a repeat of last summer's flood damage. We’ll get the full story on this
tonight.

They're here to stay - the Red Arrows are to stay in the county, but will move
from Scampton to RAF Waddington. We'll find out what this means for the two
bases and for the world famous aerobatic team.

We'll take a look at the project to help children with behaviour problems which
teaches them how to look after horses. And find out why Lincolnshire's weasels
are set to become stars on national television. We'll catch up with the
Lincolnshire man whose garden has caught the attention of the BBC's Springwatch
campaign.

We’re to be invited into the home of the Hull City fan today who's turned his
house into a shrine to the Tigers. And we'll look at the business which has
been swept off its feet with Wembley fever. Don’t forget we’ve got our special
hour long programme on Friday. Look North will be packing their bags and
heading down to Wembley. We’ll be there for the big match too, so if you’re
going down to Wembley, then look out for us and say hi! I’ll be there at
Wembley all day on Friday and I’m sure it’ll be quite a thrill to see inside
the new stadium. It’s certainly supposed to be very impressive. And of course,
we’re preparing our special programme on Friday all this week. We’re going to
be looking at the history of the club and looking at the special fans that have
followed their team all the way. So don’t forget to get in touch with me on
this one. You may have a unique memory of watching the club when you were
young. We’ve got some amazing photos of the team back in 1904! If you’!
ve got any special photographs or memorabilia from the club, then think of us
and get in touch. We’d love to hear your stories or see your photos. Email our
main inbox with any memories you’ve got of the club to [EMAIL PROTECTED] I look
forward to seeing your emails!

Bike The Baltic

Here’s something I am in awe of! Lyn Strydom has got in touch with me to let me
know about a 621km bike ride challenge for Marie Curie. I can’t even imagine
how far that is! This is what she says, “The cycle challenge I am taking on is
a massive challenge for me. I am not a professional cyclist, just a normal
person who lives and works in Lincolnshire. I will be flying the flag for the
county in August when I cycle across Poland and Lithuania, taking on over
600kms, in a bid to raise much needed money for Marie Curie.” So there you go.
All the best to Lyn with that.

Sleep

Oh dear, here’s a subject close to my heart. I read today that scientists have
shown that relying on our sleep-deprived brains to perform well is potentially
fraught with danger. They found that even after sleep deprivation, people have
periods of near normal brain function in which they can finish tasks quickly.
However, this is mixed with periods of slow response and severe drops in visual
processing and attention. The research shows that sleep deprived people could
perform simple tasks and even complex tasks very well, but complicated,
repetitive and perhaps boring tasks, like driving, could cause problems. So
there you go. I’m sure this is a concern not just for people like myself, who
have sleeping problems, but also for night shift workers too I’d imagine!

Where’s My Golf Ball?

I can imagine this technology taking off amongst the gadget-hungry golfers!
Intelligent golf balls are being designed that will tell the golfer exactly how
far the balls have been driven from the tee and how high they’ve been hit by
the nine-iron. Soon golf balls will be designed with tracking technology on a
little chip inside the ball. It’s using the same GPS satellite technology that
mobile phones use. There’ll be implications for runners and cyclists too as
these clever chips can be implanted in trainers or bikes to show how far
someone has run or how high an altitude a cyclist has reached. I bet these
golfers will be more concerned for their intelligent golf ball if they lose it
in the rough or in the water! I think there’ll be a lot more golfers wading
into the water to fish their special golf balls out!

Well, that's it from me for now. Enjoy your day and keep in touch with me if
you want to share any special stories about Hull City.

Take care,

Peter
