Hi there, and welcome to Wednesday’s Levy Letter. Yesterday’s slight blip in
the weather looks like it’s over. It’s lovely and sunny out there.

On tonight's programme, we'll have the remarkable story of the woman, who has
volunteered herself as a human guinea pig for new cancer treatments. This comes
as the NHS announces plans to recruit more people with terminal cancer for
research programmes in our area. We’ll speak with her tonight about why she is
putting herself up to be a human guinea pig.

Also tonight, after seven hundred job losses in Grantham, we'll join one job
seeker on the hunt for work. And if you’re one of the workers at Fenland Foods
in Grantham and you’re out of a job, but want to share your story, then get in
touch with us. If you’re worried about the future and about how you will find
more work, then email me straight away. Of course, it’ll be in confidence if
you wish it so - [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Also on Look North tonight at half past six, we'll find out about the
anti-terror laws that could see harmless photos taken in the street landing you
in trouble with the police. We’ve looked at this story before, but as the
summer approaches, then you might go sightseeing with your camera in some of
the UK’s towns, so tune in tonight to find out more!

And Hull is buzzing today. Our sports reporters in the newsroom are so tense as
we wait for the big match tonight. There must be a lot of fingernails being
bitten today I would have thought! We'll be live at the KC Stadium tonight as
Hull City fans arrive for the match that could see them playing at Wembley.
That’s all on BBC One at half past six. I hope you can join me then.

D-Day

As always, here’s a little plug. This time for Ron Kitchen. If you’re in the
Grimsby or Cleethorpes area, then this might be of interest to you. He says
that on Friday 6th June, there’s a 1940s-style dance to commemorate D-Day. It
will be held at the Cleethorpes Memorial Hall. The Frank Cleveland Orchestra is
booked for the evening for the big-band sound. As there is a wartime theme, the
meal will be traditional ‘bangers and mash’. The event will be attended by
members of the Lincolnshire Military Preservation Society in full authentic
period uniforms. So Ron has requested that if anybody wanted to join them in
coming in similar period dress, then you’d be more than welcome! So there you
go. There’s a D-Day dance at the Memorial Hall on the 6th June. Enjoy!

Reminisces

And on a similar theme too. Liz has got in touch with me to put out a request
to Levy Letter readers. She writes, “Please could Peter find me a WW2 Lancaster
Bomber wireless operator, who could tell me about his experiences. My uncle was
a wireless operator and I'd like to know what kind of life my uncle would have
led as one.” So let’s hope we can help Liz. Get in touch if you think you could
help with her request!

It’ll Give You The Creeps

I guarantee you that you’ll think of this next time you’re in the supermarket!
I certainly will. I read today that a tarantula was spotted in a bunch of
grapes as they were being washed under the tap! I don’t want to admit being
scared of spiders, but this guy from Suffolk seems to be quite a cool customer.
He apparently managed to catch the 5cm long creature and he took it down to the
local vets. Not wanting to generalise, but I’m sure there would have been many
more people, who would have reacted slightly differently if they’d come across
something crawling about their grapes! The quotes though from the vets startled
me somewhat. They say that they get about half a dozen calls or so a year from
supermarkets asking for them to come and collect lost spiders that have hitched
a ride on their fruit and veg! They cited frogs too that will often be found in
bananas and one or two snakes! I think people in the newsroom here will be
aware of my dislike for snakes! I might double c!
heck my fruit and veg quite carefully in the future… just in case!

Well, that's it from me for now. Enjoy your day.

Peter
