Hello, it’s Tim here. Well today rounds off my stint standing in for Peter, who
I hope has enjoyed a well earned holiday. Normal service will resume on Monday.

It's been a very busy week with the anniversary of the floods, the Lincolnshire
Police capping story and ongoing developments in the Haltemprice and Howden
by-election.

However, I am very much aware that there are many other stories out there and
thanks to everyone who's kept in touch this week. One such issue is the ongoing
campaign for greater recognition for the wartime role of Bomber Command in
Lincolnshire. I want to say special thanks to Scotty Scott and Douglas Hudson -
an ex-navigator and bomber veteran - who are fighting for a dedicated campaign
medal for Bomber Command, which lost more than 55,000 men and women between
1939 and 1945.

There was recent controversy with the news that the Bomber Command Association
is backing plans to build a new memorial in Central London. Many veterans are
concerned that the present memorial in Lincoln Cathedral has been overlooked in
this process, although I must stress few are completely opposed to a London
memorial as may have been suggested in a recent report. As Douglas Hudson puts
it, the Lincoln memorial is of "majestic simplicity". If you happen to be in
Lincoln, I would urge you to see it for yourself and remember the brave men and
women who lost their lives for the freedom we enjoy today.

Photographs

We’ve had some lovely pictures come in this week for the weather slot! Thanks
for those. As I write this, Lorna Couchman has just sent in a great picture of
a pair of Great Crested Grebes at Whisby nature park near Lincoln. Thanks
Lorna! Although, the sun is shining bright at the moment, it may take a turn
for the worse at the weekend. Whatever you’re doing this weekend, take your
camera along and think of us if you see an artistic shot!

Moving House

With the news today of the government's proposal to build 7000 wind turbines on
land and out at sea off the UK’s coastline, this story caught my eye! Dubai
seems to be the architect’s dream location. It seems that the wackier the idea
is, the better it’ll be for this Middle Eastern resort. Here’s the latest
design to match the infamous palm tree hotel – the world’s first moving
building! It’ll be an 80-storey tower with revolving floors, which will give
the impression of a shifting shape. I’m not sure if I fancy this much, but the
nicknamed ‘Dynamic Tower’ will be made up of 80 pre-fabricated apartments which
will spin independently of one another. The apartments will spin a full 360
degrees at voice command around a central column by means of 79 wind turbines.
And these turbines will make the entire building energy-sufficient. Do you
fancy a spinning apartment? It’ll cost you though. The entire skyscraper will
cost an estimated $700 million to build, but you could snaffle a!
rotating apartment from between $3.7m to $36m. Don’t book the removal van
just yet, it should be built by 2010, but you know how these constructions go…
With all that technology in there, I’d probably add a good couple of years on
that date!

Well, that's it from me. Thanks for watching all week and for emailing in.
Peter’s back on Monday, probably with a great tan too!

Tim
