Sigh, I just want basic, basic, _basic_ computer/user/group
authentication and naming understood -- *NOT* full LDAP expertise.

*** HERE'S YOUR KEY TEST ***

How are you -- Mr. Samba-only administator -- going to synchronize
UNIX/Linux computer/user/group authentication and naming across multiple
subnets of many, many servers?

What about file synchronization between Samba servers? Authentication
of those file synchronizations? Are you going to use smbfs? What about
the automounter? What about all sorts of things?!?!?!

I really don't think you've thought this through except from a single,
standalone Samba server standpoint -- one that might optionally run
Winbindd.

Sooner or later you're going to realize that at level-3, you've got more
than just "how do I implement Samba?" questions. You've got "real
world" questions like, "how do I keep credentials on Samba server
synchronized, and handle key file and other details?" -- even if you
assume you have 100% Samba and 100% Windows clients.

And don't just say "LDAP"!

Answer my "test" before you do.
Really, I should have done this from response #1.
