Minutes for UA MOPS meeting, May 16, 2006
In attendance:
Kobus Barnard, Alon Efrat, Bongki Moon, Praveen Rao
Main points:
o First summer schedule meeting (Tuesdays at 10:00).
o Bongki agreed to give Kobus a rest as the scribe. Starting next week, the
minutes will be prepared by him.
o We discussed preparation of SPIE poster
o Praveen Rao and Bongki Moon have the action item of looking into the
details of the PanSTARRS MOPS system to ensure optimal co-development. We
have tentatively scheduled the meeting on June 6 for them to present
detailed analysis and recommendations. This may be adjusted based on the
possible interactions with Francesco Pierfederici and other happenings.
o The bulk of the meeting was spent on discussing some ideas that Alon had
regarding matching. In particular, Alon presented a formulation of a robust
matching. Alon suggested that we call an edge in a bipartite matching
epsilon-robust if it survives the addition of epsilon "jitter" (error) in
the weights.
o Alon further suggested that we could be able to compute the epsilon for
each edge in the optimal match in somewhat reasonable time. We will further
look into the prospects of a relatively efficient algorithm for this.
o (Kobus) We need to consider what is the relation between this and the
probabilistic formulation.
