In bright light, with large areas of colour, the human eye can just distinguish 24bit (16 million colours). Rather similar to SD and HD. 100cm or so screen at 3 meters and the eye cannot distinguish (angular resolution of human eye) Can your monitor resolve 16 vs 24 colour? maybe but maybe not. There is no reason to choose 32 or 24 over 16. If you do see a difference it is hardware rather than software. (you may need to take 16-24 with a pinch of salt, but not 32-24) Also to be considered is how you hardware resolves the colours 5+5+6 11+11+10 ? 24 is easy and nice 8+8+8.
