I wasn't trying to compare image quality between the two modes, and I'm completely aware rendering will be different with different renderers. I'm not trying to make any kind of argument about image quality with this, I was purely pointing out that the image renders differently between the two bit depths and that that difference is visible on all modern monitors. Yes, we should compare images we use on the desktop _on the desktop_ not on the login manager. Agreed. My point was an aside, sorry to have brought it up. Can we leave this? As it happens, I did just down the new LDM to have a look at the bg.png file, it's now blue to white and the logo has changed - much better than the old one!
