I've never tried to use the 'dnsserver' program. I've 
found a box running BIND (+ 'nscd' if your name server is 
running on Linux) is adequate, as long as your customers 
use the same box for resolution - this way, the Squid box 
already finds the record cached, reducing response times.

I've been happy with BIND, even on FreeBSD, where there's 
no such thing as 'nscd', although BIND's own caching 
implementation is quite impressive.
