I side with the incumbent on this issue. When you pay billions to lay the
infrastructure then why should you share your hard work. It is one thing
where in Uganda the government paid to run all the telephone wire, and the
government runs the telecom company. That is not the case here.

As far as broadband in the US i completely agree. The US should not be
outside the top 10 when it comes to broadband penetration. I don't blame
Comcast for the situation we are in. Internet service has been treated as a
secondary service to phone and tv for so long. IE you get a better deal if
you bundle all three together. Now that the internet and net enabled
entertainment is slowly replacing TV as a main form of entertainment is
people's homes other companies are starting to notice. Verizon is spending
money build a fiber network and the former Bell companies are follow suit.

But I also feel that it is unfair to compare the US to other countries are
far as broadband except for other large countries like Russia, China, Canada
and Brazil. From the list you can see that the US has more subscribers than
the next 3 countries combined. It is great undertaking to wire a country of
this size every time a new technology comes out. Where as Japan, S korea UK
can rewire themselves in a weekend (just a joke to illustrate the point), it
would take more than a weekend.
