David and Ed
This is just a passing thought and I admit more one for the sound
engineer than the lutist. I know you probably won't want to go to the
extra trouble involved, but one way of making a recording a little
less dry is to use a valve and single-ended transformer preamp. This
can give a superb sound, and is not necessarilly that expensive, or
even that large.
New technology is not necessarilly the best, as we lutists know well.

I agree that studio recordings can allow you to edit out any slight
mishaps (and that is very tempting to do), but, as you imply to Ed,
it also edits out the life in the performance. I think the less the
recording is edited (and the more the performance is one from the
beginning to end), the more that recording captures the "breath" and
the enjoyment of a live performance. I may be wrong, but your
recordings on your site do have the more lively feel of the unedited
piece of playing.
Regards
Anthony
