For high end, he selected both the Schoeps MK2 and the Sennheiser 
MKH80 for his own collection, and I prefer these as well.

I think the Oktavas are ever so slightly rounder and warmer, but the 
quality is also a bit uneven.
The Oktavas can also be modified so that is a consideration as well. 
The Studio Projects Omnis are a bit more colored in sound, although 
the color is nice; I prefer a slightly more neutral sound. The SP are 
a bit tricky to place but will reward you with good placement. John 
is very good at Mic placement.

The SP B1 is cardioid, and is slightly different from the ones that 
John used, the difference here being mainly the difference between 
cardioid and omni.
I bought my B1's on ebay for $80 each, I don't really use them, I 
lend them out. Someone is using them right now :)
