My favorite CDs are recordings of live performances because I tend toward the view that a lute CD should be simply the record of a performance. Your recorded work has this quality for me, Ed, and that's part of its charm. The same issues arise in the recording of jazz and other music involving improvization. Joe Pass said that when he recorded his famous solo guitar albums for Norman Granz (Pablo Records), Granz presented him with a list of tunes to record as he entered the studio. Some of the tunes he had not played in years and wanted to do a second take. Granz refused remarking, "What's the matter, you trying to 'get it right?'"
