Hi Mélodie, Perhaps I should explain what distros like F123, Sonar, and Vinux do.
These distros are meant to make life easier for the blind. They do not generally make source code changes, and the few times they do, they share with upstream projects. They are different in that they make installation by the blind easier by turning the Orca screen reader on by default. They also make special configurations like predefined keyboard shortcuts and simple things like making the Nautilus default showing of files be as list instead of icons. These distros also save disk space by taking out applications that are no longer accessible to the Orca screen reader, like Evolution, and using instead Thunderbird. Other software that is included, may be related to accessibility. For example, F123 brings Compiz Fusion already setup with the eZoom plugin. It is off by default, using Metacity, but can be easily turned on. In all these distros, F123, Sonar, and Vinux, people give constant feedback to upstream projects where such feedback is occasionally ignored and occasionally acted on. I am responsible for F123, and as soon as I heard that Gnome Fallback was going to be discontinued, I started searching for something like LXDE. While I can make changes such as the above within my own distro, any change to the source code of a core application like a window manager or such, is best done upstream, in this case, in LXDE itself, so it trickles down to Lubuntu, and from there to F123. As far as I know, these projects have slightly different philosophies in as far as what type of users they want to attract and how, but they are all committed to the FOSS strategy. I know Vinux has sent code patches upstream perhaps even to the Firefox community, I know Jonathan's Sonar initiative is helping make LibreOffice more accessible to all of us, and in my own case, F123 has contributed funding to Compiz Fusion eZoom work, as well as to WebKitGTK accessibility development. In the interest of getting the gball rolling and more blind users testing LXDE, I have recommended that they try out LXDE on Sonar, because it is the only one that I know is currently available for download with LXDE ready to go. If accessibility improves I am sure we will have an F123 based on LXDE and probably many others. None of us have the resources to go it alone, so do not worry about people keeping code improvements to themselves. If anyone goes in that direction, they will soon regret it when they see the high cost of keeping things in parallel to the main project. I am also new in this group and I am doing my best to be constructive even if occasionally I make my own mistakes as well.
