Hi All,

I'll just comment that Bryan's remarks about the poor POI coverage of the
Sendero Lookaround app for the iPhone, reminded me that the "Where To? --
Discover your next destination" app by FutureTap is a very good paid app with
an extensive POI database and is currently on sale for $0.99 instead of the
usual $2.99. This app works internationally with language support for English,
German, French, Italian, Japanese, Spanish, Portuguese, Dutch, and Greek.
While it does not provide turn by turn navigation directions like the GPS
navigation apps, you can search for POIs and then send the results to Navigon,
TomTom, or Motion X GPS Drive (if you have any of these GPS navigation apps on
your device), or to the built-in Google Maps app for turn by turn navigation.
This app will also work for the iPod Touch and iPad using your Wi-Fi location
to estimate your current location.

A very neat feature that the developer put in for VoiceOver users is that when
you check out the POI results from your search, you're also told, not just the
distance to that Italian restaurant you looked for, but also whether it is,
say, slightly to the left of where you're facing while holding the iPhone, or
behind you, or to the right. (This assumes you're using the app on device that
has a built-in compass that will support this feature, which will not be true
for the Wi-Fi only iPad models or the iPod Touch.)

Here's the URL:
• Where To? - Discover your next destination ($0.99 on sale; normally $2.99) by
FutureTap GmbH
http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/where-to-discover-your-next/id314785156?mt=8

The promotion is in honor the release of the latest version of the app, so I
don't know how long it will run. You can check the reviews at AppleVis.
Several list members can also probably comment on this app. The POI database
for the Sendero app is extremely poor and out of date in my area, by the way.

HTH. Cheers,

Esther
