Okay Bob. First, we have to separate the problems you are having. I DO NOT
USE SYMPATICO, so others who do PLEASE chime in!

Problem 1) Connecting to the internet. You have been totally unable to
connect to the internet through Mac OS X.

Problem 2) Importing bookmarks.

Browsers and email applications not working would seem like A "Problem 3",
but these are actually a result of Problem 1. So, no matter how many web
browsers you try out, they won't work if your network settings are
improperly set.

Possible solutions/suggestions:

Problem 1 Connecting:

Please answer each of these questions:

1) Are you running a version of Mac OS X that was pre-installed on your
iMac, or did you install it, yourself. I am not referring to an update of an
installed version; I'm talking a full install of OS X. So, the question is,
did YOU do a FULL install of OS X, yourself? Yes or no.

2) Do you use a DSL router to share your internet connection among more than
one computer, or is the DSL modem connected directly to your Mac? So, do you
use a router? Yes or No.

3) Did you go to the Sympatico URL I gave you in a previous post? Now, these
settings ONLY apply to a direct connection between the modem and the Mac. If
you use a router, I can't help you because I'm on cable... and neither will
Sympatico! They offer NO HELP in configuring routers, either on-line or on
the phone. But anyway, here are the search results at Sympatico for the
word, "router":
http://www1.sympatico.ca/cgi-bin/search_custserv?keyword=Router Now, I
assume that your OS 9 internet settings are functional. This is the URL I
gave you for a single connection scenario:
http://www1.sympatico.ca/help/Software/osx.html As you will see and know by
now, there is no special software required by Sympatico to allow Mac OS X to
connect to the internet. If you were able to connect to the internet in OS X
by booting your good old Sympatico Access Manager, then what you're actually
doing is causing OS X to launch it's OS 9 emulation mode to allow your OS 9
Sympatico Access Manager to connect. So, even though you are booted into OS
X, it's your old OS 9 settings that are connecting to Sympatico via OS X's
Classic mode. You're not REALLY connecting to the internet ia OS X, this
way. Confirming your OS X settings will hopefully solve this. So, did you
confirm and or configure OS X's Network settings as the instructions on this
page directs http://www1.sympatico.ca/help/Software/osx.html ? Yes or no.

That's enough for now. No use in getting into browsers until we get OS X
connected to your Sympatico account.
