Anyway, I couldn't find any voice chat/audio conferencing software that
would work between OS 9 and X or even between OS 9 and OS 9. It seems like
Mac really is a back water in that regard (how long has Windows had it as an
option through MSN or AIM? Four years?) :(. (plus, Cu-SeeMe, the old standby
no longer seems to be available for Mac).
I haven't tried this one in a while, or in my G4... I seem to remember a version of
Netscape Instant Messenger (or AOL) 4.3.2.1 or something close.... that I conversed with someone on the opposite side of the nation. It worked in the lower OS's and as long as you had a microphone you could be audio active like you were using an iDen two way Motorola radio/cell phone. I was impressed because the audio was manageable and it seemed stable (1/2 hr conversation w/no problems and at no additional cost) Lots of people probably still have that version somewhere, so finding it shouldn't be a big deal.
Best of luck
Kevin
