Homemade DVDs are not country specific unless you specify the region
code yourself when you make the DVD. Commercial DVDs often are
country-specific but occasionally you'll find one that isn't (I have
yet to hear a rational argument in support of region codes... of
course the media business is pretty ethically bankrupt so I'm not
exactly surprised they behave in such a bandit-like fashion (how many
*large* media companies have been convicted of illegal activities in
various countries over the past few years)).

As for the player only swapping five times... what a farce. It's
ludicrous that media companies can hold their customers hostage like
that. What happens to people who travel with laptops? Do they have to
buy a new DVD drive every three flights across an ocean (next time I'm
in Europe I'll probably buy a cheap DVD player rather than use up two
more of my switches)?

Eric.
