Thanks for the heads up on PatchBurn and it didn't help.

Patchburn 4 works for 10.4, Patchburn 3 works for 10.3. Patchburn 1 works for 10.2. Make sure you use the right version.

All patchburn is supposed to do is enable your drive to work with (for example) iTunes, but it has other effects as well. I used patchburn in June to enable a DVR-109, which wouldn't mount without patchburn. During or after startup the system sent messages to the drive but never recognised a response, so the drive just sat there blinking away. Even so, it showed up in System Profile. It was fine under 10.4, which did recognise the drive directly. All of this was on a Quicksilver G4.

Is there a Patchburn-pioneerdvdrwdvr110.drprofile in /Library/DiscRecording/DeviceProfiles? If not, the patchburn installer was unsuccessful, possibly because the 110 is very recent. In that case, try the advanced mode of the installer and see what it has to say about the drive.

It's possible the iMac just doesn't have the necessary support built into its ROM, though your experience with the USB 1.1 writing suggests otherwise. All hail the power of buffer underrun protection!
