Thanks for the heads up on PatchBurn and it didn't help. I couldn't get it to recognise the drive when using the Firewire cable (System Profiler could see the drive) so went to USB 1.1 so it could load a driver. A restart and I was back at no Firewire burner. I was able to hook up a Firewire external hard drive and there's no problem with either port, or either cord.
When the burner is hooked up via Firewire, it just keeps hunting for something. It won't stop unless I power it down. Toast 7 is G4 only. I tried to fake it but no luck. Will try upgrading from Toast 6.0.5 to 6.1.1 to see if that helps. MEANWHILE, as the subject line says.... Danged if I wasn't able to burn a DVD (at 2x) using the USB 1.1 connection! Slow as molasses but it worked. Leaving me to ponder... how the heck did this happen?!?!?! When I was contemplating adding an external to the iMac 350mHz, everyone said DVD wouldn't work on USB 1.1. (And I was pestering everyone!) Before I give the iMac 350mHz away to the kid down the street, I'm going to load a copy of Toast to see if I can burn on that one too. The results might help out someone who isn't able to upgrade even the small step that I did. Will continue to hunt down the Firewire issue as I'd love to have the speed. Thanks everyone for feedback.
