If this is your only reason for having Word, you might want to look at OpenOffice, which is a free clone of MS Office. Requires installation of the X11 server, though if you're running Panther that's reasonably straightforward - it comes on the disks as an optional install. OpenOffice is fairly rough round the edges at the moment, but you might find that preferable to laying out the cash.
