The client says my best bet is to download Microsoft Word for the Mac.
Is he correct?

What file types are you working with? If they're .doc files, then everything should work smoothly enough. I've had no problem exchanging Mac Word files with Windows-using clients.


Depending on the complexity of the templates, TextEdit might be able to open them. Since OS X 10.3, it has included the ability to open and save .doc files.
