Hi, all,

I am afraid that the storm last night may have fried my computer.

I have a G4 dual 1gig tower, and it lost power in a crash of thunder
and lightning last night. This morning it would not start up through
the surge protector, but started up fine when plugged directly into the
wall outlet. I promptly bought a new surge protector, but then the
computer would not shut down - it repeatedly restarted when I told it
to shut down. I decided to try changing the start up disk (my hard
drive is in 3 partitions - OSX, OS9 and the third partition with both 9
and X) to the partition with both 9 and X. Then when I tried to
restart, it would only give me the blank gray screen. I restarted,
zapping the pram, and now it won't even give me the start up chimes. I
can shut it down only by pulling the plug or holding the power button
for 6 seconds. Then it will not start up at all unless I turn the surge
protector off and on again - then it starts up without pushing the
power button at all.

I found info on the Apple site saying to try updating the firmware, but
I can't start up all the way to do that. I tried unplugging everything
but the monitor, keyboard and mouse, but no luck.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Wendi
