It seems to be a collection of problems that are isolated to small
groups. People have been saying for a while in the "fixit forums"
around the web that they would some some strange problem after
installing an update via SUCP that would go away after they downloaded
the combo installer and installed the update. For a while it seemed to
be an urban legend type of thing, but these folks have making their
voices heard.

After an update comes out, try hitting a few places like macfixit,
xl8yourmac, etc and read the comments about problems. Invariably there
will be several reports of some problem that appears and goes away
after the person downloaded and ran the combo version rather than the
SUCP version.
