A little off the target of what you are trying to achieve, but if your
iBook has a FireWire port on it, you can mount it on the iMac's desktop
by using the FireWire ports.
One method uses a software program, IP over FireWire, from Apple that
you have to download to use. (This makes your Macs act like they are
connected via a faster than standard ethernet approach.)
The most direct method involves holding the T key down on the iBook
while you restart it. After it starts, the firewire symbol will come on
the screen and bounce around (it's a screen saver). Connect the two
with a FireWire cable and the iBook's hard drive will show up on the
iMac's desktop.

You can then transfer data back and forth. After you are finished,
select the iBook's drive icon and eject it (like you would a CD),
disconnect the cable and either turn it off or restart it.
